Habitat for Humanity Improves Production with Formax FD-7104

Habitat for Humanity Formax FD-7104
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home.

At Graphic Technology Group, we've had the pleasure of helping with their printing, binding, and finishing needs.

We asked Mark Gibson, print manager for Habitat for Humanity, a few questions about his new Formax FD-7104.

Why Did You Replace Your Old Inserter?

For the past 30 years, we've been responsible for the acknowledgement receipt process which has been an antiquated and slow process with tremendous man hours that could have been directed in another direction.

It has been brought up in years past about upgrading our Bell & Howell Mailstar 400 but that came with great costs and never went anywhere.

In March of 2021, I was given the opportunity to improve our receipting process by either upgrading our Bell & Howell or purchasing a different inserter that would do everything on one machine.

Why Did You Choose The Formax FD-7104?

After talks with Bell & Howell, we decided to go with the Formax FD-7104 Inserter from Graphic Technology Group.

Earlier in 2021, we purchased a piece of bindery equipment with GTG and were pleased with the purchase, delivery, and set-up process.

Our old Bell & Howell Inserter was replaced with the FD-7104 for the following reasons:

  • Cost: The B&H was more than double the price and even if we were to just add the folder and optics to our existing Mailstar 400 it still would have been more than the Formax FD-7104.
  • Production: On a good day with the Bell & Howell, we processed 3 two-foot trays in a hour. With the Formax, we went up 9 two-foot trays per hour.
  • Easy Operation: The Formax is easy to operate once you learn the system. If you can operate and navigate a digital press or bindery equipment, you should have no issues. Our GTG Technicians were very good with their training and are only a phone call away in most cases.

I would say if you go with a Formax Inserter and are currently using an antiquated process like we were - you will say, "Why did we wait so long?"

If you're looking into doing your own mailing for the first time, Formax is the way to go.
